The production database went through more than fifty versioned changes in eight weeks, each one tested first, while serving the website and the iPhone app at the same time. The owner now sees real activity: who did real work, who only browsed, and which features paying users rely on.
A product with web and iPhone users, team accounts, payments and player photos needs a backend that is safe, fast and honest. Some data is very private: a coach's squad is the names and faces of young players. And the owner needed to know the truth about usage, not just a sign-up count that included copies and empty boards.
We designed the database to protect people by default. Tables that hold people's data have row-level security, so each person can only reach their own. Squad photos live in a private storage bucket, and a photo becomes public only when the coach switches it on for one specific post. Shared links that should not be listed are served one exact address at a time, never by opening up a table. On top of that we built the data side: where each new account came from, fire-and-forget event tracking that never slows the app, user tiers that separate real work from browsing, and a daily report.
